Wow. Just… Wow. I couldn’t put it down, and when I finished, I jumped straight to the audiobook of book 2 because I couldn’t wait.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

If you haven’t read Caraval, I strongly recommend you do because this follows on with Jacks as one of the main characters and the events overlapping a little at the begging of this book.

What I liked…

Everything.

I love how we have the same quirky and fun magic from Caraval but with different rules since this takes place in a different kingdom,

Jacks… I loved him in Caraval. I’ll leave out specifics in case you haven’t read it, but we get quite a a bit in this book and I love that fact that we get more of him in this series.

Evangeline is a fun and conflicted character. She’s trusting enough to make for a fun story with some slip-ups, but not too trusting to be a flaw.

I absolutely love how Stephanie builds tension between her characters. It’s a true talent.

What I didn’t like…

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Final thoughts…

If book 2 wasn’t already out, I’d be crying right now.
