Reading Ranting – Caught up in the Hype

It happens to the best of us when we read a book and think it’s okay, but then we get talking about the good things in the books and we get all hyped up. Sure, this doesn’t happen to everyone, and it definitely doesn’t happen to me that often, but I can find myself getting swept away in a fandom wave sometimes.

Now, if you know anything about me, you’ll know that no amount of hype will change my mind if I didn’t like a book in the first place. Many series have left me wondering why they’re such a big deal when I found them barely tolerable. However, a few series have made me love them more because of the social media posts and mini communities they’ve created.

It’s like book cheerleading to excite the crowd and make them focus on the fun things they loved in a book. It’s also a great marketing strategy that I’ve used by sharing a few complimentary videos to create hype.

Unfortunately for me, it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped, but I’ve been part of it for other authors, so I know it’s a realistic strategy when done right. If I could just work out how to make it work for me 🤣
